Hello again! The longer I spend in Philadelphia, the longer my bucket list gets...there's so much I want to do and so many new things I want to try! This past weekend I went to the Diwali festivities at Drexel University and it was unlike any Diwali celebration I've ever been to. There was food, music, entertainment a fashion show and, of course, the traditional Pooja ceremony!
My name is Shirley and I am from Vancouver, B.C. I am currently completing a 6-month co-op at Drexel as the marketing and communication co-op student for the Steinbright Career Development Center and here's my story:

I completed my undergrad degree in Communication from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, B.C. I've lived there my entire life. When the opportunity came up to move to the States for a co-op I never expected a huge cultural change because America is generally not that different from Canada.

But during the 3 weeks that I've been here, I've seen, heard and experienced so many things that I would have never experienced back home. The demographics, attitudes and cultures of this city have really surprised me and every now and then I have to remind myself that I'm in a different country (then I'll get thrown off again when I see cars parked in the middle of the street - legally).

I've never lived on my own before and by taking the leap to do so for the first time in a different country, I've learned so much about myself, about others and life. By coming to Philadelphia, I’ve left the comfort level I knew and loved in Vancouver to do something different.

So far my experience here in Philadelphia has been absolutely amazing and I’m sure it will only get better. I hope to hear how your experiences are going as well!

My name is Duc Nguyen, an Electrical Engineering pre-junior at Drexel University. Currently, I am doing my second co-op at HUBO Lab (KAIST, Daejeon, South Korea) It is my great pleasure to share with all of you my amazing 6-month "adventure" in one of the most exciting countries in the world. I also hope that this site will become a portal for us to share and discover our moments all around the world. I love traveling as learning more about the culture of the world. So if you have any chance, please bring me there through your entries, photos, videos, etc. and hopefully someday I can step my feet on the lands.

I visited South Korea before for my spring break trip but this time it is quite a long trip for me. My 6-month adventure has just been lasting for 10 days and I have had a lot of fun moments here already. Blogging is one of my big interests, so if you have time, you can visit my blogs and explore South Korea through my point of view. Hope you guys will enjoy it. :)

My friend from Vancouver visited me last week, and it's definitely been a jam-packed, exciting past 6 days. She was able to see a lot of famous Philadelphia sites (The Love Park, the Liberty Bell, South Street to name a few), and we were even able to make day trips to Atlantic City and New York City. She definitely enjoyed her trip here and in turn, I was able to see Philly in a whole new light. Sometimes when you are living in the same place for such a long period of time, everything is familiar. And then when you look at the same place in a whole new light, it's like you're traveling there for the first time. The beauty of the Schuykill river early in the morning, the exciting atmosphere of South Street at night, and the wonder of seeing the "LOVE" sign for the first time-- and at night as well!

Philly is definitely a wonderful place to do my international co-op. And doing an international co-op also means that friends can visit me here!Drexel Co-op Abroadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00294081462906511182noreply@blogger.com0Steinbright Career Development Center, Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA39.9581041 -75.188007439.9577841 -75.188264400000008 39.9584241 -75.1877504tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7681881855742538910.post-52305812308865507742011-07-25T14:00:00.000-07:002011-07-26T05:59:52.980-07:00Life in technicolorWelcome Drexel students to the Co-op Abroad blog! As a current international co-op student, you have the opportunity to share your amazing experiences abroad. As a student interested in international co-op, feel free to read about the exciting and challenging experiences that current Drexel students are facing and get to know what life is really like as an international co-op student...

I am actually a current international co-op student myself. My name is Beatrice and I'm studying Communication at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I'm doing my international co-op here at Steinbright Career Development Center as the Marketing and Communication Co-op student.

Life here in Philly has been amazing so far. So far, I have been learning new methods and techniques of marketing and promotions; developing skills that are invaluable to my career path (verbal and written communication, project management etc.); meeting friendly and helpful people and learning about their cultures; and traveling around the east coast of the U.S. I've also tried the Philly soft pretzel and Water Ice (which has to be the best thing ever!).

I am definitely looking forward to reading about your experiences as an international co-op student-- it will make me feel as if I were traveling with you around the world. And I think this song can sort-of describe how life is like during the high times of international co-op work terms!
I felt it when seeing others wrapping gifts for families and friends. I felt it when watching falling snow.
But this year I am in China where Christmas is not such an important holiday. I work in an expat community so everybody has left for a vacation. It is so quiet around here. I just packed things yesterday deciding to travel around China a little bit more and to come back to Vietnam.
The last 3 months in China without much travelling is boring and challenging. It is boring because of the nature of the job (sport desk receptionist = no real job to do). It is challenging because I do not have real friends here and my Chinese is not that good to befriend quickly. My resolution for the next 3 months: TRAVELLING, TRAVELLING & TRAVELLING.
For everyone in the US, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.Pool-party blue fingernailshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06654197280673008621noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7681881855742538910.post-67981130891069823102010-12-13T11:15:00.000-08:002010-12-13T11:16:04.489-08:00Holidays Around the WorldHappy Holidays Everyone!!
