Life in the USA!

Hello everyone! My name is Shirley and I am from Vancouver, B.C. I am currently completing a 6-month co-op at Drexel as the marketing and communication co-op student for the Steinbright Career Development Center and here's my story:

I completed my undergrad degree in Communication from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, B.C. I've lived there my entire life. When the opportunity came up to move to the States for a co-op I never expected a huge cultural change because America is generally not that different from Canada.

But during the 3 weeks that I've been here, I've seen, heard and experienced so many things that I would have never experienced back home. The demographics, attitudes and cultures of this city have really surprised me and every now and then I have to remind myself that I'm in a different country (then I'll get thrown off again when I see cars parked in the middle of the street - legally).

I've never lived on my own before and by taking the leap to do so for the first time in a different country, I've learned so much about myself, about others and life. By coming to Philadelphia, I’ve left the comfort level I knew and loved in Vancouver to do something different.

So far my experience here in Philadelphia has been absolutely amazing and I’m sure it will only get better. I hope to hear how your experiences are going as well!

I’m off to visit Love Park!

Yeongdong-gun and the science fair in Daejeon

Hello again,

I have just post a few new entries on my site. You guys can check them out by following the links below. They are about my trips here and there: making clay pot at a small village and being submerged in a pool of children at a science fair in Daejeon. ;)
